Mara D. Calame serves as Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of The Talbots, Inc. She had served as General Counsel to The J. Jill Group, Inc. prior to its acquisition by Talbots in 2007. Before joining J. Jill, Ms. Calame was Senior Vice President and Counsel, at State Street Research & Management Company, an investment management firm and a subsidiary of MetLife, Inc. Ms. Calame began her legal career as an associate in the corporate department with the law firm of Foley Hoag LLP in Boston.

Ms. Calame is on the Board of Trustees of the South Shore Conservatory and has served on the Board of Overseers for the Celebrity Series of Boston since 2009. In high school, she played the violin in the New England Conservatory Youth Chamber Orchestra under Benjamin Zander and went on tours with orchestra to the Soviet Union, Romania, Poland and Austria.

Ms. Calame received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale College, where she played in both the Yale Symphony and the Yale Bach Society. She received a J.D. from Boston University. She and her husband, Rich, have two daughters who play the violin, cello and flute.
