Homeland Fuels Company, Co-Founder, Co-CEO & COO

Charles currently serves as Chief Operating Officer & Co-CEO of Homeland Fuels Company, an emerging synthetic fuels company. Homeland is developing energy projects that convert waste wood or other biomass into ultra-clean synthetic fuels and graphene in an environmentally responsible manner.

MindMics, Inc, Co-Founder, Chairman

Charles helped launch MindMics in 2018 and currently serves as its chairman.  MindMics has invented a completely new method of continuously monitoring personal health using infrasonic sensors included in consumer earbuds.  The company is preparing its initial product launch, expected in 2022.

Athenium, Inc, Founder, Chairman, & CEO

Athenium developed and marketed a cloud-based software system for managing the performance of P&C insurance claims handlers and underwriters.  It is used by many of the world’s largest P&C companies and has been deployed in over 30 countries.  The business was sold in 2018.

Fidelity Investments Executive Vice President and CFO

Prior to launching Athenium, Charles was the Executive VP Marketing for Fidelity Investments' 401(k) business. During his 11 years with Fidelity, Charles also served as Chief Financial Officer for Fidelity's mutual fund business and Senior VP of its investment arm. His accomplishments at Fidelity were diverse and include launching of Fidelity’s benefits outsourcing business, creation of the Freedom Funds family of retirement investment products, and development of the world’s first large-scale digital securities trading system.

Earlier work experience includes:

  • Vice President, Planning and Corporate Development for American Can Company
  • Strategy consultant for Boston Consulting Group
  • Software development at Control Data Corporation, Stanford Research Institute, and Ryan McFarland Corporation, concentrating on on-line collaboration and computer languages

Charles earned a BS degree with highest honors in Physics from the University of Michigan and a MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is active in the Boston business community and is past president of the Harvard Business School Association of Boston. He and his wife, Sharon, have two grown children and reside in Weston.
