Sameer Patel

Zander Fellow, 2010-11

Originally from Michigan, Sameer has trained as both a conductor and pianist and has conducted professional and youth orchestras throughout North America and Europe.  He has held conducting positions at the Detroit Symphony Civic Youth Orchestra, the Hot Springs Music Festival in Arkansas, and at the Strings International Music Festival in Philadelphia.  Sameer describes himself as “passionately devoted to music education and outreach endeavors.”

As the Zander Fellow, Sameer will spend much of his time engaging in an intense first-hand experience in which all the wonders and all the rigors of directing an orchestra will be exposed to him.  Close by Ben’s side, he will observe and participate in every aspect involved, including attending rehearsals and board meetings, and traveling with Ben for guest conducting engagements and master classes.  He will also take part in the myriad of details that remain behind the scenes, such as the preparation of scores, discussions on musical interpretation, and the general flurry of keeping up with Ben’s full schedule!  Sameer is ready to dive in and says he is “thrilled to be moving to the Boston area and working closely with Maestro Zander.”
