2007-2008 Season, Concert 4
April 24, 26 & 27, 2008
Bartok: Violin Concerto No. 2 Kyoko Takezawa, violin Brahms: Symphony No. 1
For our final concert we are delighted to be able to present the amazing Japanese violinist Kyoko Takezawa in Bartók’s Second Violin Concerto, one of the most beautiful and exciting concertos to have been written in the twentieth century. It is a specialty of Takezawa’s, eliciting overwhelming audience enthusiasm every time she plays it. And to end the season, the Brahms First Symphony, a piece beloved by all, orchestras and audiences alike. Brahms was one of my own very first loves in music, and it always feels like coming home every time I play one of these great symphonies that so deeply engage both your mind and your spirit. I can already feel the uplift of walking out into the Spring air with the sound of Brahms’ exalted finale still in one’s ear. I can’t imagine a more glorious ending to a season of uncommon diversity and depth.

Kyoko Takezawa, violin "Takezawa--one of the world's top violinists--had everything this music requires: lyric grace, precise intonation and clearly defined melodic lines on the top strings; a gutsy resonance on the low strings; rhythmic energy and expressive power." -Washington Post |
