From 1967 to 1997, I was active in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industry, primarily engaged as a senior executive in Business Development, Acquisitions and Strategic Planning. In 1994, I left Johnson and Johnson to join Human Genome Sciences, Inc. as Sr, VP, Business Development.

After retiring from Human Genome Sciences, Inc. in 1997, I was active in the Biotech Sector as a founder of several Venture Capital based companies including Avalon Pharmaceuticals, Sensors for Medicine and Science, Reprogenesis, Inc, and Manticore Pharmaceuticals. I also served on the Boards of several other private biotech companies including Psychiatric Genomics and Memory Pharmaceuticals as well as several Public companies, most notably Life Technologies, Inc (originally Invitrogen Corp.) I retired from the Life Technologies board in April, 2013 after finalizing a definitive agreement to sell the Company to ThermoFisher. I served as Chairman of Life Technologies (then Invitrogen Corp.) from 2003-2004. I served for many years as a member of the Audit and the Science and Technology Committees of Life Technologies, and for three years as Chair of the Organizational and Development Committee.

Since retiring from the Life Technologies board, I have focused on several charities including:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties (Florida)
MitoAction
Indian River Golf Foundation
Hibiscus House

I serve on the Boards of all but Hibiscus House and am actively involved in fund development for each.

All of these organizations are focused on helping disadvantaged, abused or neglected or, in the case of MitoAction, chronically ill children and their families.
I am a Big Brother and reading mentor of an 8 year old boy.
