Anthony Rufo is an Associate in Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property and Litigation Departments, and a member of the the firm’s Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition and Advertising and Marketing practice groups.

Anthony’s practice touches upon all facets of trademark law including disputes, prosecution and portfolio management. He represents clients in federal trademark infringement suits and in adversarial proceeding before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also advises clients on strategically building and managing their domestic and international trademark portfolios, and routinely prosecutes trademarks through registration at the Patent and Trademark Office. Anthony represents clients across a broad spectrum of industries including insurance, software, biotech, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and the food and alcoholic beverage industries.
Anthony also advises companies on issues related to false advertising and has represented clients in false advertising disputes. In regard to copyright, he has experience in infringement matters including representing a client in a civil litigation involving fair use in an academic setting. Anthony has also assisted in a number of patent litigations. His experience extends to intellectual property protection for pharmaceutical and life sciences companies, including representing patent owners in Hatch-Waxman litigation.

Anthony has participated in a number of international trade disputes including civil litigations as well as appellate matters. He is multi-lingual and has actively practiced in both Spanish and German. He also maintains an active pro bono practice, participating in several of the firm’s well-established pro bono programs.

Prior to joining Foley Hoag, Anthony interned for the Honorable George A. O’Toole of the United States District Court with the District of Massachusetts. He also served as a student attorney in the Suffolk University Law School Immigration Clinic, where he successfully represented a foreign national in an matter arising under the Convention Against Torture. Before studying law, Anthony had a decade of experience in financial services including work as corporate compliance manager for an international fiduciary bank.
